COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD
There are currently 194 indenpendent countries in the world more than at any previous time and 59 dependencies . Antartica is the only land area on earth that is not officially part of and does not belong to any single country
In 1950 the world comprised 82 countries . In decade following many more states came into being as they acheived independence from their former colonial rurals .most recent additions were caused by the breakup of the former soviet union in 1991 ,and the former yugoslavia in 1992 ,which swelled the ranks of independent states . In may 2006 montenegro voted to split from serbia ,making in the latest country to gain independence .
