OCEAN STRUCTURE
The continental shelf is a shallow , flat seabed surrounding the earths continent . It extends to the continental slope , which falls to the ocean floor . Here the flat abyssal plains are interrupted by vast , underwater mountain ranges , the mid ocean trenches which plunges to depth of 10,920 metre .
